The Strategic National Stockpile
- Formerly known as the National Pharmaceutical Stockpile (NPS)
- Arrives in 100 cargo containers in a wide-body jet or seven 48 foot tractor-trailers
- Weighs 50 tons & occupies 5,000 square feet
- Large quantities of medicines, antidotes, medical supplies, & medical equipment
- Additional vaccines & medications can be requested and shipped as needed (Managed Inventory)
Includes:
- Adult & pediatric drugs, some in bulk, most prepackaged for individuals
- IV drugs catheters & admin sets
- General emergency medications
- Burn & blast supplies
- Airway equipment
- Fluids & wound care materials
- Equipment for repacking bulk oral antibiotics
Managed by CDC
- County EMA or Health Department requests through Governor
- CDC decides if SNS will be deployed
- First shipment < 12 hours
- ODH will take custody of SNS
- OSP/National Guard will provide security for transport of SNS
- Materials delivered directly to PODS & Hospitals
